Inspired by the Gin Eyre, this version keeps the refreshing combination of gin, citrus, and mint but swaps the orange liqueur for elderflower and introduces grapefruit for a slightly more bittersweet finish. It’s floral without being perfumey, tart without being sharp, and just sweet enough to keep everyone turning the page.
Makes 1 cocktail
Ingredients
2 oz gin
¾ oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
½ oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
½ oz elderflower liqueur, such as St-Germain
¼ oz simple syrup
5 to 6 fresh mint leaves
2 dashes orange bitters
Directions
- Combine the gin, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, elderflower liqueur, simple syrup, mint leaves, and orange bitters in a cocktail shaker.
- Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously until well chilled, about 15 seconds.
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and grapefruit wedge.
Note
A London dry gin works particularly well here, since its juniper-forward character balances the floral sweetness of the elderflower. For a slightly drier cocktail, omit the simple syrup.
